I joined the firm immediately after my graduation from University College London with an honours degree in History. Initially I worked in the legal team. In 2002 I took on the role of HR Manager, a position which I held for 6 years until I was promoted to Practice Manager.
I have managed the full range of HR issues (within the context of a partnership with approximately 200 employees over multiple sites) including:
- contracts of employment
- job descriptions
- policies and procedures
- recruitment
- induction
- training
- retention
- pay and benefits
- performance management
- absence management
- discipline and dismissal
- grievances
- restructuring and redundancies
- health and safety
A career break in 2009 took me around the world, with Japan and South America being particular highlights.
I returned to the firm at the beginning of 2010 in a new role.
Having had first hand experience of the challenges employers face I work closely with the legal team to ensure that our services meet the changing needs of our clients. I also provide HR support to employers which do not have a dedicated HR function as well as supplementary HR support to those which do, for example the independent investigation of grievances. My input is designed to compliment the legal team's services by helping clients to improve the effectiveness of their HR processes while keeping costs to a minimum.
In September 2010 I acted as a judge for the 'Dignity in Care Award' as part of the Great London Care Awards.
I enjoy voluntary work, my previous experience having included several Crisis Open Christmas shifts and teaching English at an orphanage/school in Cambodia. So far this year I have participated in several charity fundraising activities - the Marsden March and, with my colleagues, the London Legal Support Trust's sponsored walk and the Crisis Square Mile relay race. I am also a keen hiker and follow the fortunes of Arsenal FC.
